The Foundation:

The Julia M. Bommer Memorial Trust was established in May 2005 in honor of 6 year old, Julia after passing away from a rare kidney disorder.  The foundation was founded by Julia’s mother and father, Maureen and Stephen Bommer, who accepted donations, in lieu of flowers, at Julia’s funeral.  It was the Bommer’s desire to provide assistance to other families of terminally and chronically ill children facing similar challenges.

In January of 2006, a group of Maureen’s closest friends, along with Stephen and Maureen’s brother Mark Dzialga, Incorporated the Memorial Trust and filed 501 (c) 3 papers.  We received our official 501 (c)3 Charitable Organization status that year.  In 2008, we filed paperwork to establish ourselves as Julia’s Butterfly Foundation.  We are known and file taxes under The Julia M. Bommer Memorial Trust, Inc. doing  business as Julia’s Butterfly Foundation.

There are currently 6 Executive Board members and a Board of 13 Directors.   Additionally, there are 3 Honorary Board Members and a Butterfly Committee of  27 members who volunteer on a project basis.  To become a member of the Butterfly Committee, email christine@juliasbutterflyfoundation.org and provide name, address and email information.  We are committed to growing the foundation and expanding our coverage beyond the tri-state area (NY/NJ/CT).
